Guideline for Privacy

The available privacy policy clarifies, which information from CEIR are captured by using the website www.ceir.de, which are entrusted by the user and how we protect these data.

1. Privacy Policy

The protection of personal data is important for the University of Koblenz-Landau. In the design of our website we are governed by the regulations of the German Teleservices Act (TMG), the German Data Protection Act (BDSG) and the Nation Data Protection Act (LDSG).

2. Use of Personal Data

When you visit our website our webserver stores the viewed pages and their data elements in a log file. The following data is collected and stored for six months until its automated deletion:

  • IP address of the requesting computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name and URL of the downloaded file
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Indication whether download was successful
  • Data identifying the browser software and operating system
  • Referring website
  • Name of the visitor’s Internet Service Provider

The processing of this data is intended to allow use of the website (connection setup), for system security, for technical administration of the network infrastructure and the optimization of the website. The IP address is only evaluated in case of attacks to the university network infrastructure.

No personal user profiles are created.

Personal information is only used with your explicit consent and when necessary (e.g. if you register a user account to download resources) or to respond to your enquiries.

You can always revoke your consent.

3. No Disclosure to Third Parties

Your personal information will be used only within the university network. There will be no passing on of information to third parties. The only exception is a transfer on request of an authorized government agency or law enforcement agency e.g. in the event of a misuse of our services, in particular a deliberate attack on our system.

4. Technical Privacy

We save your data on especially protected servers in Germany. A small number of employees with specific technical responsibility have access to it and they are bound to rules of confidentiality.

5. Use of Cookies

When you access our website, we store information in the form of a cookie on your computer.

If you refuse the use of cookies, we ask you to change the settings of your browser. You generally have the option to reject all cookies, or allow for storage only after your approval. The refusal of cookies does not restrict the use of our website. For more information, please refer to your browser manufacturer’s instructions.

6. Google Analytics

For the analysis of hits on our website we use Google Analytics, a service of Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google Analytics evaluates the cookie stored on your computer during your visit to our website. The information generated by the cookie about your use of our website is usually transmitted to servers operated by Google Inc. and is stored there.

Your IP-adress, so far as you use our website from a member state of the European Union or from another signatory of the agreement of the European Economic Area, will be shortened, i.e. pseudomized before its transmission to the servers, operated by Google Inc.
